Fairfield Free Public Library Offers Extensive Learning Opportunities for Patrons

FAIRFIELD, NJ--We are proud to have a long-term connection to the Fairfield Free Public Library, a local community asset. In 1985, Rosalind PioCosta - Robin PioCosta-Lahue’s mother - made a generous donation to construct a new educational facility for the library in her late husband’s name, Anthony PioCosta. She chose to support the library because of our family’s business involvement in the area and Anthony PioCosta’s strong belief in education and self-improvement.

Under the guidance of the Library Director since August 2020, Maria Manigbas, the Fairfield Free Public Library offers free membership to all Fairfield residents and guest membership for North Caldwell and Essex Fells residents. On top of access to the in-house collection of print and digital books, library members can borrow from over 25 PALS Plus member libraries, Open Borrowing through a number of libraries in surrounding counties, and through Inter-Library Loan requests.

In the current context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the library is offering a range of virtual programs and events. Director Maria Manigbas brought her 11 years of library management to bear and has focused on strengthening the library’s virtual offerings, given the great need during the pandemic. Some of the programming is recurring on a weekly basis, such as Meditation, Chair Yoga and Pajama Storytime. The library is also offering special programs oriented around holidays or specific historical or cultural topics and is working with local and out of town presenters. Both Fairfield residents and non-residents are welcome to participate.

In order to safely welcome patrons, the library has a set of strict protocols in place. Visitors pass through a contactless temperature kiosk and are required to wear masks and social distance at all times. The total number of visitors at any one time is limited to twelve, and the length of visits is limited to thirty minutes.

In addition to borrowing, members can also reserve the library’s meeting room, utilize printing and scanning services and take advantage of forthcoming notary services. The library will also soon have self-service faxing and scanning available as well as self-checkout. Another very exciting perk for families is access to free day passes for museums.

We’d like to extend our appreciation for the library for providing high quality opportunities for learning to our community and would encourage you to learn more and join!
